Setup checklists

Audio, video and day-of checklists: the room, the phone or camera, and what to have ready before you start.

Use the checklist that matches your format: audio for radio and podcasts (Radio and podcasts), video for TV and remote video (Video and TV). The day-of list applies to every format. Skip the one you do not need; its items stay empty.

Audio

Essential for radio and podcasts (Radio and podcasts); optional for print.

Video

Essential for TV and remote video (Video and TV); optional for print.

Day of

Essential for every format (Print and online onward).

How to use this sheet

  • Tick as you do each one. The note column is for what you changed, such as which room or which headset.
  • Test in the real place. Record one answer in the room and on the device you will use, and play it back.
  • The producer's instructions come first. If a producer or studio asks for something different, follow that and note it here.
Fictional example

Dr. Lena Ostrowski (fictional) ticks "Setting known: remote" for the live 6 p.m. hit on the fictional Lakes 7 News, notes "kitchen, window behind me, moved lamp in front," and leaves the audio list for the next morning's taped radio interview.

Limits

These are producers' and universities' checklists, not requirements. They do not teach hosting, producing or building a home studio. A studio or producer may ask for something different, and their instructions come first.
